I am 25 and just bought diamond to try it out I am addicted, I just talked my fiance into buying pearl so we can play together and he is 24 lol. So I voted never. A few of my friends who are both over 20 are just as addicted as me so I don't know maybe some people do grow out of it and some people don't

It'll bring back a lot of childhood memories, and if/when I have kids it'll be something to do together (If pokemon is still around by then.)
I might outgrow it past 20, but probably not. It's like a really cool RPG with many characters. I love it.

my wife and i (both 27) love the games, although i am way more addicted than she is.
a friend of ours was staying with us for a few weeks and he got temporarily addicted (he was 31 then). he started playing my wife's sapphire game, and i told him he couldnt save it. so he played for about 5 hours and got to dewford and had to turn it off to go to bed. then the next night he started again and after about 6 or 7 hours he got to slateport and had to turn it off!! then i realised i had a spare emerald and he played that for w while, but didnt finish it before he left. so....... im gonna vote for never. there isnt a specific age (or even range of ages) where everyone while give it up. its a personal thing....

I'll admit, I got out of it for about a year or so, then started playing again when I was bored one day and couldn't stop...so in my oppinion I don't think anyone really "grows" out of it...but ya sure can grow into it XD
(wow...yeah stupid joke)

A lot of people lie about getting out of it. You bring a game to school, and people mentioned things only current pokefans know. But, people to outgrow it. I said over 20 because there wasn't an after 40.

I fail to see a reason to grow out of a game that is simply "stereotyped" for kids, when it is definately more complex than a normal kids game. There's strategy, persistence, and patience involved in a superb pokemon file, and I seriously doubt the majority of pro players are below 10, or even 15 years old.
Sereiously, the people who complain about the game being kiddy probably haven't even played it, and probably know little to nothing about it. Anyone who just doesn't like the game and has played it probably just doesn't have interest for games like it.
Sorry for ranting, it's just a pet peeve of mine,...

We have a delusion in our society that enjoying something intended for children makes you immature and child-like yourself and that for whatever reason it is completely unacceptable(They of course don't tell you why, simply because they have no answer themselves.). What about all these people who create childrens cartoons, or the people who design games just like pokemon, or the people who appear on shows like sesame street or play school? Are they considered too old to be doing their jobs? Should we fire them? It really is quite stupid.
by the way, I'm 20 and I've been playing pokemon since I was 12, when Red and Blue first came out.
Don't be ashamed of something you love, people who refuse to even try to enjoy apparant children's entertainment are insecure about their appearance to others. Sad really.

Well I'll be 21 in october and I haven't outgrown it yet. In fact I didn't even get into it until I was 19. Call it a kiddy game if you want, I'll just call it awsome.

Guess what? When I was 10, I was a poke pro! I knew about breeding, I didn't understand egg moves much, I knew about base stats, I knew about the save before battling a legendary, blah blah blah.
So, calling people under 15 not poke pros is like kicking a bull in their shiny hiny!

It's foolish to think that certain things are "outgrown" over time just because the majority of society agrees that it's childish. These things fluctuate over time... five or more years ago it would be thought "childish" for anyone to play video games at all. Now it seems to be more mainstream because of its growth. It was a force put out by society to make people ("nerds") to feel embarrassed by what they enjoy in their free time.
So no, I don't think that there's a certain age that people will grow out of Pokemon naturally. If someone's friends, classmates, and family make fun of them for it they may feel forced out of it at any age. The very thing happened to me during Middle School, when Pokemon was in its prime. My friends and I were constantly harassed for it at school, even the ones who didn't play it. So yeah, eventually we did feel it was childish because of peer pressure. By eighth grade the fun was over.
Only now, years later, when I'm out from the pit of the school system, can I do what I want without worrying about it. My close friends might snicker, but deep down I know they'd play it too if they hadn't been convinced that it was only for kids. I'm guessing that the anime show had something to do with this... With only the video and card games it may well have ended up like Magic: The Gathering, that is, accepted by late teens and adults.
I am 20, by the way.

i dont think people mean that under-tens cant be good at pokemon because im sure they can (and you are evidence!), but i think there are some aspects to the game which require a more mature mind to deal with. for example, i wouldnt have had the infinite patience required to battle at the battle frontier where you have to keep picking yourself up after losing in the 60th battle and having to start again. another thing is natures, EV training, good movesets etc. im pretty sure it is common for the younger players to have pokemon like flamethrower, fire blast, overheat, blaze kick. or even just have a team of 6 pokemon who can only attack.

I don't think there's an age to outgrow Pokemon, but I think people just might lose interest as a while. The loss of interest may not be age-related at all.
I can sit here and say "I'll still love Pokemon forever," but really I have no idea how my interests or personality will develop as I grow older. The younger a person is, the worse their prediction of the future will probably be.

I don't think you ever grow out of it. I've been in to pokemon since it came to America. I fell out of it once I hit high school for awhile cuz I'll admit I was embarassed back then about it but I got back in to it bout four years ago and I hope my kids will be pokemon fanatics too.

Never. I am 16 now and I got the games right after they came out, when I was 7, and have been addicted ever since. When it first came out, in my school, pokemon was the 'cool' thing to do. Heck, we played under the tree at recess time, cables linked every which way. It was great, until they banned pokemon from my school.

I'm only 13, but I still think I will be playing my Ruby game when I'm 30. I don't think I'll ever quit.

I have to agree that its a personal thing, and that anyone of any age can enjoy it, when i first got red version, i was a little younger and my mom was the one that showed me how to get out of the house, oh so much has changed since then. As for people saying its childish, i would have to say that many pokemon players i have met seem to have more mature minds then the people that say its for kids, im 16, and i have to say that most of the people in these forums have more mature conversations than many i have with my friends, of course my friends are idiots
