...it's é not e'.

Hold Alt and press 0233 on your number pad (with the Num Lock on). Voilá, E with accent acute!

Granted, using a normal e is fine. Just no more e', please?

I use alt+642, a random and easier short cut I discovered one day, rather than using the actual ASCII number. Faster for me.

Good looking out. Granted, it's like muscle memory for me to use 0233. I've been typing it forever, since I've got the accent in my middle name (Renée).

You probably have to push the FN key while you do it (to activate the number pad). That's what I have to do on my laptop.

Make sure you're using the number pad numbers, not the ones on the top of the keyboard.

A really really easy way to do the whole é thing is to press Alt Gr and e at the same time - and it works for other letters too:

á é í ó ú :D

I bet you never even knew that that key had a use :p

I don't think American keyboards have a Gr key. It would make sense for other countries though. We don't often use accents on letters, so another key isn't of any use to us.

Mods, this is starting to turn into a general discussion on keyboards and accents, so it can be moved to General Discussion if you want.

Well in the UK it is the right hand Alt key, so I don't know if that would still work for you... maybe not :| oh well, you will just have to do it the silly way :p
