I'm curious as to what set of starters appeal most to Pokemon fans. Do old school gamers favor the originals more than newer sets, do newbies to the series find more fondness towards the newer set? Is it a mix-up mash-up?

I, myself, have been playing since generation one, and I can't quite get over my love for the originals. They're simple in design, but at the same time are somewhat more sophist9cated than the newer pokemon. Charmander is my all time favorite. Johto statters come in a close second. So yeah, What are your favorites and why?

I would have to choose First Gen. Just too much love there. Still miss my Squirtle when I traded away my games :/

Gen III starters for me. Too cute to resist.

I'm way too attached to the orignials. My first pokemon game was Yellow so I had Pikachu and all three starters. Plus, the first gen was the only one where I liked all three starters. Of the rest of them, I only like Typhlosion, Meganium, Sceptile, Swampert and Infernape.

The first generations just had the most appeal to me; the rest of the generations seemed like they were just trying to improve on the previous design. (i.e. Turtwig instantly reminded me of Bulbasaur, as did the generations.) Just an opinion I guess.

First generation was the best overall, but the second had cyndaquil

In my opinion it would definately be the first gen. They have always been my favorite since I started playing.

I favor the second gen due to how rare and interesting they've become. HeartGold and SoulSilver will definitely change this.

Wow quite freaky how my Kanto, Johto and Hoenn ones were all the same. So I guess I'll have to base it one the evolutions of those pokemon. I dislike all the second and third evolutions of Hoenn so they're out. I love Meganium and Bayleef but dislike Quilava, Crocanaw, Typhlosion and Feraligatr. So Kanto wins!

Not sure...in each genenration I like two and dislike one starter...

I really like Hoenn's and Johto's starter Pokemon the most. This of course isn't even counting Final Evolutions.

Generation IV. I like all starters in Generation IV because I love how they are mixed. Like Infernape Fire and Fighting, Empoleon Water and Steel, and Torterra Grass and Ground.

You can't beat the original, 1st generation starters.

How can anyone vote against Generation 1? It was sheer imaginary genius, not only were the ifrst three all extremely cute, but a dinosaur-plant hybrid, a turtle that eventually grows giant canons out of its shell, and a fiery lizard that turns into one of the most popular pokemon ever! Clearly Generation 1 was the peak in terms of starters.
