OK so I began working on a (mainly opinion-based) guide about which moves are the best. It is organized by first Type and then whether or not its Physical, Special, or Other. You could call it a simplified version of Standardized Movesets. Basically, instead of giving a Pokemon and the four moves that would best be used in combination with it, this guide just focuses on each move on a single basis. Goal: To help inexperienced trainers decide which moves to choose when casually playing. Obviously if you were going all the way, you would want to look at the standardized movesets, but this is supposed to be a quick reference say when you're Blastoise just leveled up and you need to know if the loss of accuracy in Hydro Pump is worth the power gained when trying to decide if you should get rid of an old move. _____ So far I've done the physical moves of Normal attacks (there are a ton!) and I did all types of Fire type moves (physical, special, other) Normal Physical 1. Body Slam 2. ExtremeSpeed 3. Skull Bash 4. Double-Edge 5. Giga-Impact 6. Dizzy Punch 7. Facade 8. Explosion 9. Flail 10. Endeavor 11. Selfdestuct 12. Return 13. Super Fang 14. Crush Grip 15. Secret Power 16. Headbutt 17. Hyper Fang 18. Slash 19. Stomp 20. Crush Claw 21. Rock Climb 22. Take Down 23. Rapid Spin 24. Strength 25. Double Hit 26. Feint 27. Mega Punch 28. Mega Kick 29. Natural Gift 30. Present 31. Covet 32. Bide 33. Guillotine 34. Horn Drill 35. Thrash 36. Eggbomb 37. Spike Cannon 38. Horn Attack 39. Slam 40. SmellingSalt 41. Frustration 42. Fake Out 43. Vicegrip 44. Rage 45. Comet Punch 46. Barrage 47. Fury Attack 48. Wrap 49. Double Slap 50. Quick Attack 51. Fury Swipes 52. Cut 53. Bind 54. Pay Day 55. Pound 56. Scratch 57. False Swipe 58. Constrict 59. Tackle Fire Physical 1. Sacred Fire 2. Blaze Kick 3. Fire Punch 4. Flare Blitz 5. Fire Fang 6. Flame Wheel Special 1. Eruption 2. Heat Wave 3. Flamethrower 4. Overheat 5. Magma Storm 6. Fire Blast 7. Blast Burn 8. Lava Plume 9. Ember 10. Fire Spin Other 1. Sunny Day 2. Will-O-Wisp So my question to you all is: Is this worth continuing? - and - Has something like this already been done? And Keep in mind that I'm no pro. I know some of these rankings are very opinionated and some out-right wrong. I need all of your opinions to help me make the best ranking to help those who need a little help. Please respond with suggestions about what should be changed in the order. |

Hey Ajit! Actually, I've been looking for something like this for a few days now. I've also been looking for just a general discussion of whether or not defensive or status moves are worthwhile in competitive battles. Seeing your list, based on your opinion, is actually very helpful to those of us who are relatively new to Pokémon. And yes, I personally do think it would be worthwhile to continue. And I, for one, would certainly follow the thread and your updates. So, tell me, when you're training your Pokémon up for general game-play (ie, going against the gym leaders & E4), do you tend to only use attacks that inflict damage, or do you also include status attacks/boosters or defensive moves in your arsenal? For example, would you have moves that decrease your opponent's attack or defense, or that boost those stats in your own team? Do you find defensive moves (such as reflect or detect) to be useful in a battle? Or, do you find that for in-game battles, you do the best when you simply concentrate on really hard-hitting attacks from high-level Pokémon? |
