Ok, an idea came to me after a friend asked the question: What’s your most valuable pokemon, and I rattled off a few. It wasn't until later that I thought about the question again, and realized that I hadn’t actually given the question real thought. I couldn’t really figure out my answer until I reformatted the question to be more specific, so I based it off all those (repeatedly used) threads asking which six of any of the some 500+ pokemon would you trade your soul for.
So my question is, of any of the pokemon that you OWN, not owned in the past, but that you still have, up to which six significant pokemon from any game, Red to Soul Silver, do you strive to hold onto, do you actually care about above the fact that you just went out and caught a pidgey in Fire Red and trained into this Uber level 100 killing machine (though on Red, that may be a bit more significant), or that “Oh so powerful team” you’ve trained just to beat the E4 and Red on Heart Gold. Anyone can do that, but what I’m asking is: What six pokemon are most special to you?
It’s more personal than all those “which pokemon would have if you could have any”, but that’s the point, and I think it’s a rather interesting question. They could be anything from your first ever pokemon, to your favorite, shiny or not, pokemon, to a pokemon you received from a good friend. Just the top six most valuable pokemon you still have and the reason why. Even the game it came from and the date range, if you can remember it or if you can check with what the summary says.
It doesn’t have to be six either, I only have four, but the idea was based off the scenario: You are an actual trainer, you’ve traveled the world, and you had caught all these hundreds of pokemon who now just laze about in some lab field, who haven’t died, and haven’t done much at, really, since you caught them. Which of these pokemon would you tend to keep with you if you ever traveled, just for the sake of traveling, or would keep in your home? Which pokemon hold a place in your heart that the others don’t. Think of Ash and Pikachu. Technically, especially for the veteran pokemon gamers, who have been playing since the get go, we have traveled and seen just about every aspect of their world, and have very likely caught hundreds, if not thousands of pokemon, who, for the most part, just stayed put in their boxes. That was the case for me, atleast.
…So I’ll start:
1. Blaziken
Obtained: March 17, 2003
Game obtained in: Ruby
This Blaziken is special because it was the very same Torchic that I spearheaded my exploration of the Third and Fourth Generations, which I consider to be an era separate from Generations One and Two. Aside from those on Pokemon Stadium 2, Blaziken is my oldest and most valuable pokemon, even if it did just sit on Pokemon Box for about five or six years.
2. Gardevoir:
Obtained: March 05, 2010
Game obtained in: Platinum
I consider this Ralts to be special because, even though I only caught it a few months ago, it is shiny. Not only is it shiny, but it is also female. And not only is it shiny and female, but I caught it on my nineteenth birthday, making all the more significant to me. If it was male, I don’t think I would be so proud of it, because I don’t like Gallade all that much, and though Gardevoir is one of my favorite pokemon, I don’t like Male Gardevoir. There is also the fact that in both Diamond and Pearl, I chained hundreds of the little buggers, but didn’t find a single one, but then on my first ralts chain in Platinum, the eighth piece of grass was sparkly. Overall, I think I’m more proud of it, rather than it being significant, but it is still young, with many things to do. It is definitely my baby.
3. Garchomp:
Obtained: August 01, 2007
Game obtained in: Diamond
This Garchomp is perhaps my most accomplished pokemon, ever. It is EV trained, has a good nature, and I used it almost singlehandedly to complete the National Dex in my Diamond; the first time to do so for any pokedex since before Gold and Silver. In the process of doing so, it also became the first pokemon that I have ever trained to level 100 from a relatively weak level (15) without the use of supplements, cheats or day care. It’s because of this that I value this pokemon above so many others.
4. Tyranitar:
Obtained: April – May of 2006
Game obtained in: Emerald
This Tyranitar is the first pokemon I have ever bred and trained with the sole intent for competitive battling, though I was somewhat skimpy on the IV’s. It is the first I ever EV trained, and I even trained a Seadra to level 62 to be his granddaddy, with a few greats thrown in. I did use rare candies on it, so Garchomp still has the claim on level 100 with no supplements, but this Tyranitar was rather successful in the few rounds I remained in the Journey across America tournament a few years ago.
