I prefer not to use any sort of code or cheating device when I play. There have been exceptions in the past where I have used an action replay for the Dreamcast, but that was a different matter altogether. If any of you are old enough to remember Dreamcast Phantasy Star Online, you'd know XD.

I don't like using cheats such as "Infinite Lives", "Max Stats", "One Hit Kills Enemies", etc.

I do, however, thoroughly enjoy cheats that allow you break the barriers of gameplay that are not meant to be broken. For example, there are plenty of areas in many games that you can see, but can't get to. Devices like Action Replay often have codes like "Press L to Levitate" or "Walk through walls", and by having those on you can sometimes get to those normally inaccessible areas.

Some games have really odd secrets hidden in them that you can uncover when you have the ability to move about almost any way you want. For example, in RE4, you start the game just after crossing a bridge that you cannot go back through (at first your teams' car blocks the way, then the bridge gets cut down". With an Action Replay, you can go back into the territory not meant to be ventured in. Iirc, you can find an odd waterfall that when you walk under it, Leon's hair goes into a brownish buzz-cut style.

I also like cheats that let you access beta features that were left in the game, like cut out dungeons or test areas. One that I can say is really cool for this is Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker; there was a ton of stuff left on the disc to tinker around with. Related to beta, I also find it cool when you can get access to debug menus and screw around with all sorts of stuff.

In short, I like cheats if they let me delve around in things I'm not supposed to do/be in.

I only use cheats when I pass the game and I'm bored, but I would never use them to actually get through the game!

The only games I really ever bothered to cheat in were Super Mario Bros. 3 (to see some beta levels), Pokemon (to pwn some n00bz!!1 and see the Pokemon events), Final Fantasy VII (to see the debug room and get infinite moniez) and Final Fantasy VIII to get Tonberry without having to torture myself. I've cheated for money in every single FF game I played except I, III, and IX.

Oh, I love beta levels! I always use them in zelda games. It's fun cause it's like testing out the game's bugs and problems :D
