I hate rap.
Only thing that I would listen to that is rap, is the underground stuff. For example: Deltron.

Well ok then, I'm following your instructions by posting. Seriously though, that's horrid English.
I don't like rap. I don't like today's rap, and I don't like "old-school" rap. Honestly, rap just doesn't appeal to my ears. Really that's all it is. I prefer rock.
Of course, I don't judge people on what kind of music they listen to.

I used to be big Rap Hip-Hop fan till they started Rapping about "the window, to the wall, till the sweat drops of my..." that was it for me, but i still turn on the radio station ocasionally to see whats 'hot' at the moment. Today's rappers that are out today i like Eminem and the way he can rhyme some of the words the way he can. Ludacris again same reason. Not that many Rap songs out there that can tell a good story, am getting tired of hearing about all there purchases.
But i do miss the day's of Biggie and Tupac those were two great story tellers.

Yeah Newbie, this is necromancy, though I suppose it might have added something to th conversation. I dunno, I'm not a mod so I wouldn't know if this should be locked.
If not, I used to like rap. But that was when I was a try-hard to be popular kid. Some rap is great, but others are just for pretentious fools who are trying to be cool. I'm not just rap-prejudiced though. I mostly don't like your new sort of rock bands, Green Day and The Killers for example. I think they're pretty bad too. Nowadays I prefer listening to bands like The Beatles, U2, Nirvana (I know, Nirvana's pretty different to the others).
And I never said that I hated Rap music. I said, like some others, that only old school rap is good. Pretty good.

Yeah, I've been a fan of rap for years now, however, R&B is starting to take over, and I'm liking alot of it now.

I hope I don't get flamed for this; but I don't like rap. I did like it when I was one of those "ZOMG I R NOW TEENAGER *does drugs now*" kind of person. I do listen to a few 'old' rap songs once in a while; but other then that, I can't stand rap. I like rock (Not Greenday and all those emo bands) more. I'm not saying I hate rap, I just prefer not to listen to it.

I hate rap also. Some of the old school can be good. But modern rap sucks. The lyrics are generally nothing to be proud of, and there is nothing about it that impresses me one bit.
I don't think there is anything about "professional rappers", literally, that should, or in my case, is an oxymoron.
I'm getting sick and tired of how you rappers hate your family, and life in general.
I despise modern rap, and I refuse to listen to it.
EDIT: stuff like Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer is generally okay.

I hate rap personally. In my opinion, when they named the genre, they should have put a c on the front of the word. Also, they all sing about is about how much they hate their families or how much pot they supposedly smoked in my humble opinion or how many people they supposedly shot. I don't care if you came from the 'streets', most of us have one in front of our houses for crying out loud, it doesn't make the person any better if they get paid for talking into a mic about utter crap and sell it and make millions off utter crap.
Rant over, get back to the subject.

Some rap is good (i.e. DangerDoom and a couple of others). What I don't like (and what Eswin was ranting about) was gangster rap. There is absolutely nothing positive about it. All they do talk about is how many women throw themselves at him, how he likes butts, how many people he shot, and how much he drinks and parties.
All rap is is poetry to a beat. Think of it as what a lot of us would think of as music, but without the majority of the instrumentation. Don't rule out the entire genre because one section of it is comprised entirely of morons.

I wish I touched on this. As I edited in my first post, not all rap is bad. The older stuff can sometimes be good. But I still think a vast amount of rap is dumb. However I can't say all rap sucks. Good point F_W. 8)

I pretty much avoid rap, but I have heard Kanye West's Jesus Walks and I think thats exactly the direction rap should be going. Really interesting production on that track.
What ever happened to rap artists like Public Enemy, who rapped about things that were actually important?

While I'm not a big fan of rap, Eighteen has pretty much read my mind. I think that Kanye West is probably the best rap (or hip-hop, I personally don't exactly see the difference) artist working today... His songs are about more than just "chicks" and "homies" and "gangstas" and "honeys", like say... 50 Cent, or Eminem. Those guys tend to be way too angsty for my taste. Kanye West, though, reall has something different, also lyric-wise and also song production-wise (he tends to use sampling in a very interesting way, as opposed to just rapping to an extremely simple electronic beat).I would much rather rap go in the direction Kanye West is going, and not in the direction 50 Cent is going.
