We all know the pokemon you sent into battle first can mean the victory or defeat in a match. There is nothing worse than being forced to switch out on your first turn, on the other hand mahing your oponent switch out gives you an extra turn that can help you winning.
So, what do you people open up with in Netbattle, BFrontier/BT, and in-game?
I usually open up with this:
@Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice beam
-Rest
-Sleep talk
It has plenty of special defence, and rest activates marvel scale and heals status, so this milotic is pretty hard to take down, ice beam is great for those salamence leads, and it usually forces the oponent to send out their jolteon/Raiku, and thats when I send my DUGTRIO, Yes, it works many times.

Well in NB I start with either
Ninjask (M) @ Liechi Berry ** Flash
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 128 HP / 128 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Baton Pass
- Silver Wind
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
Or
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 32 Spd / 48 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Thunderbolt
Depends on the Team I'm using really. I use Zapdos > Raikou/Jolteon because he just laughs at Dugtrio and runs away. Although Dugtrio is almost always on my team. And Ninjask is obvious, I use him to set up to either my Metagross or my Tyraniboah, depending on which ine I have on my team at the time, it varies.

Mm, I usually start with
 @Chesto Berry
Surf
Ice Beam
Earthquake
Rest
plus
 @lefties
Dragon Claw
Flamethrower
Substitute
Focus Punch
Covers a lot of things, versatile, EQ doesn't hit Charizard, good. If its in a single battle, I just use Swampert. Well, thats in-game/cartridge vs. cartridge, I don't like netbattle.

I like to lead with...
 @ lefties
Nature: Naughty
EVs: 252 Atk 252 Spd 6 HP
Spore
Focus Punch
Bulk Up
Leech Seed
I used this thing at Lv 55 for the E4 in Emerald with my other pokemon being under Lv 50... I creamed the E4. Spore and Focus Punch killed...

This question is kinda weird from my point of view, since I tend to use mah best pokes at the bottom of party just to make sure there´s nothing they can do to stop them.
Anyways, I usually start with either:
"Watt"(M)@ Quick Claw
Trait: Static
EVs: 85 Evs all across the board
Relaxed Nature (+Def. / -Spd.)
- Thunderbolt
- Fire Punch
- Brick Break
- Counter
Or
"Stare"(M)@ Lefties
Trait: Shed Skin
EVs: 100 Atk / 100 HP / 100 Def / 100 Sp. Def / 110 Spd.
Jolly Nature (+Spd. / -SP. Atk)
- Poison Fang
- Wrap
- Dig
- Protect
Those were the main gambits to let my Salamence, Dragonite and Flygon last.

I usually start out with a Claydol in the BF.
Sassy | Lefties
-E-Quake
-Light Screen
-Cosmic Power
-Shadow Ball
EVs: 196 HP, 64 Atk, 100 Sp. Def, 150 Def.
Pretty much has enough defense to take in any attack, including all of it's special weaknesses (due to light screen). I ALWAYS use light screen first, just so I don't go against a surfing Linoone.

I don't exactly like using Ninjask, as they are simply too fragile. I prefer my only EV trained Pokemon I have at the moment, Vaporeon.
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
252 HP | 132 SPDEF. | 120 SPATK. | 6 SPDa no
Surf
Ice Beam
Acid Armor
Baton Pass
If it's something it can handle, I just go ahead and kill it, otherwise, I Acid Armor x3 and Baton Pass to Alakazam.

Not to be rude or anything but those movesets aen't good. Thier not even meh. If I sent out a rock type pokemon you would be skrewed. Heres some unwanted advice.
Having more than one move of the same type is bad. You can get away with it in game sometimes, but never ever in a link battle. If you had a moveset like this...
Flamethrower
Aerial Ace
Morning sun
Sunny day
Then you could set up for an entire team with fire attacks, or solarbeam them to death. Morning sun would heal and tose other two are just basic moves. Now you are affective against 7 types VS the 4 types you were affective against before.
Another, better example is kyogre.
Dive
Surf
Hydro pump
Water spout
VS
Thunder
Surf
Ice beam
Earthquake
See how much better the second one is? Affective against a lot more types. Hope I helped!
OMG, I havet posted here yet! OK
I start with either
Umbreon for third gen
Baton pass
Calm mind
Substitute
Faint attack
OR
Ninjask for fourth gen
Baton pass
Swords dance
Substitute
Scissor cut
Pretty straight forward, I usually swap into either mewtwo, lucario, metagross, tyranitar, or Gengar depending on which one it is and the opponent. Good fun!

i know they are not very good move sets but they're okay in the game since i have no one to link with
~PS if you sent out a rock i'd send out kyrogue Lv.100 or Mewtwo Lv. 100 then you would be screwed

in the battle frontier i usually open with a fast special sweeper, like latios or starmie. but im thinking of possibly changing tactics and going for an annoyer. maybe ill give starmie thunderwave and confuse ray. when the opponent is paralised and confused i can switch in a stat upper like a dragon dancing salamence or curselax. ive also used ninjask with the standard baton passing set. its amazing how many times the computer tries to paralise you when you have a substitute.
in netbattle i start with a jolteon (thunderbolt, hp-ice, substitute, baton pass). i used to start with salamence - good for lowering the opponents attack, and possibly drawing an ice move which allows easy switch to something like blissey/snorlax.

Oddly enough, my first POke that I start out with is also a Kyogre. It has a Docile Nature, and it holds Leftovers.
Thunder
Ice Beam
EQ
Surf.
That's right, same as what alk suggested. It is my most faithful Pokemon, and the first third gen Poke I got to Level 100. *sniff.*
It is rather powerful, though when it comes to Netbattle, this thing would die. (Mainly because of it's lack of EVs. I trained it against the Elite Four repeatedly, so it has some EVs, just not the right ones.)

I lead with this:
Zapdos - Magnet
Light Screen
Drill Peck
Rain Dance
Thunder
Magnet and rain dance are for thunder while light screen is for staying in the battle long enough to use rain dance

I've read that it's best to start off with a speedy pokemon so something like ninjask or Speed Deoxys can work well.
