after you use the move taunt, how long is the opponent forced to use attacking moves?

thanks!
so lets say umbreon is fighting against shedinja and has used mean look. next move shedinja decides to use confuse ray and umbreon decides to use taunt. umbreon is faster so it gets its taunt in, and shedinja gets a message saying "shedinja cant use confuse ray after the taunt" and wastes its turn. then the next turn it cant use confuse ray either right - it has to use an attacking move. but then next turn its ok again? (unless umbreon uses taunt again)
or a different situation. umbreon vs salamence. turn 1 - salamence uses dragon dance and umbreon uses taunt. (salamence goes first because its way faster). does this mean salamence's next two moves must be attacking? or just the next one - ie does the first move count (even though it wasnt forced to use an attacking move since umbreon didnt get in first)?

great!! thanks i was hoping a netbattler would know the answer. maybe you can answer this too and save me starting a new thread. by the way, you can probably guess where all this is leading.
lets say pokemon A does mean look and then perish song. so both pokemon (pokemon A and B) get a perish count of 3. if they both stay there they both die after 3 moves. lets say pokemon A uses baton pass and sends in pokemon C. pokemon B will still be trapped by mean look so it will still die after the 3 moves. my question is, does pokemon C inherit the perish count from pokemon A, and die from the perish song?

Yes, PSong can be BPassed. That's why Ingrain-Passing sucks. Ex://
Pokemon A uses Flamethrower and B uses Ingrain. Then, next turn Pokemon A uses Perish Song and B BPasses to Pokemon C. Now, Pokemon C can't escape due to Ingrain and it WILL die from PSong.

You could pass it on to something low on health.

Most of my friends tend to understimate the effectiveness of the move Taunt.
It is a quite strategical move that works for two turns and can take away Wobbuffet, Dusclops and many others. A good pkmn for using Taunt is IMO a fast one, like Absol or Sneasel.
I used to have a poke that knew Taunt, just to prevent foes from using Toxic, Confuse Ray, Lovely kiss, Leech seed, etc. and then take´em away with powerful moves.

I agree, taunt is underated; dont forget you can also prevent a pokemon like blissey from using recovery moves.

exactly. and from using stat upping moves - good for defeating curselax).
so consider the following situation:
umbreon uses mean look and then baton passes to celebi. celebi uses perish song and waits two turns. at the end of the next turn celebi will die. so it should switch out.
i guess what im asking is, is it best to simply switch or to use baton pass. baton pass might be useful if you have increased stats at this time. but if it would mean that celebi's perish count is passed to the new pokemon who would therefore die then of course it would be better to just switch. so...does baton pass mean the new pokemon will die?

tauntridos is a gyaridos that uses taunt for the reason peanut-lover mentioned above.

Dragon Dance

HP Flying
Taunt
Stops EndRevving Heracross, Sub-Punchers, Jaskpassing, Wish Umbreon, etc.
Mostly to stop Skarmory Roars, though

Oh. I have no idea...Duh...It could use hidden power or...hidden power, but I guess hidden power could be an option too, If you are lucky it may end up using TM10, but thats a very rare situation...
Please try out and tell us, the curiosity is killing me.

I suppose it would use Struggle. Why would it do anything else?

The same as an owned Unown. Hidden Power, and that is it.

It would use Hidden Power. Now if you used Torment, on the other hand....

I think the Unown would use Struggle. Seeing as it can't use anything else. Or would it just get luck and be able to still use Hidden Power all it wants?

no, it would have to struggle. on netbattle my suicune got completely demolished by an umbreon who had mean look, taunt, torment, and something else - probably toxic. he used mean look so i couldnt get away, then torment so i couldnt use the same move twice in a row, and kept taunting me so i could only use attacking moves. since my only attacking move was surf, every second turn was struggle
a similar thing happenes when a choice bander runs out of moves. once my aerodactyl ran out of pp for ancient power, and it had to use struggle even though it had other moves. i wonder what would happen if you gave ditto a choice band and it used transform - it certainly wouldnt be able to repeat transform (unless it changed into a ditto).
