of course, we all like to evolve our pokemon, for way better stats and improved "look" of the pokemon (lol, feebas)
but are there cases wherein you think its better not to evolve? for what ever reason, maybe the evolution makes way for more type weaknesses, or added abilities which make it "worse", or simply because you wanted your pokemon to be a baby forever (lol, Ash, never evolved his pikachu), was there even a case where the evolution has worse stats?
one instance, to . keeping it vigoroth, decent stats imo, but definitly cannot compare to slaking's highest attack stat in the game. but slaking has that somewhat annoying can only attack every other turn ability, its okay if you're getting good sweeps, but if you fail to beat the enemy in one turn, there's a risk of either tanking it, or making a switch, either way, you're open.
and so on..
thoughts?

Well, I have a killer pidgey lvl 100. It's obvious that Pidgeot is a lot stronger in every way, but I like my Pidgey and I'm keeping it. Of course I won't be using it in Wi-fi battles. It's true that some pokemon acquire more types by evolving and earn more weaknesses, but their base stats, movesets improve and you have a wider STAB range. There's pros and cons but it's always better evolving for me (unless you're talking about Pidgey).

Scyther is much more awesome than Scizor. Their stats are equal too, just distributed alittle differently. Other Pokemon that are better than their evolved forms are Magneton, Electabuzz, and Magmar.

I agree with Krisp, most of the new evolutions for non 4th Gen Pokemon are ugly, have not matching colors (Rhyperior has a darker gray than Rhydon for example) and some are even uneccesary.
And Magneton looks way better than ugly UFO Magnezone.

To solve this problem, (although really just so I have every Pokemon), I have both the un - evolved and evolved forms of Pokemon, (and the 'middle' form if there is one).

I keep 'em unevolved until they learn the move I want then evolve them if wanted, or breed them so that a new one is hatched with the moves I want.

I evolve all of my pokemon regardless of whether they learn moves later or get crappy abilities.

There are rarely any cases for me, but personally, even though they can only evolve if they are traded, I would rather have the pre-evolved forms of Alakasam, Golem, Machamp, Scizor, Steelix, or any of those any time...

I just evolve my Pokemon for Dex data, regardless of whether I'll actually use them.
The one exception is babies - I will leave them as babies forever.

I usually just evolve Pokemon for my Dex, but if it is a battle between stats and moves (i.e. evolved vs. non-evoloved) I'll go for moves. See how Ash's Pikachu pwned Lt. Surge's Raichu?
Also take these examples:
Venusaur is a fantastic starter with the best ever stats...
Er... no. The stats are good, but it has crappy moves that make those stats utterly HOPELESS.
As for abilities, I am on either side, full stop.
Slaking: Brilliant stats, rubbish ability that makes those stats rubbish.
Shedinja: Brilliant Ability, rubbish stats that makes that ability rubbish.
I will evolove Pokemon if they are good at all three areas.
Weavile has fantastic stats, a movepool super-effective on 14 types, and a great ability. There you go... Evolved.

It's a pretty common practice for me. For Pokemon that change their types when they evolve, or Pokemon which have multiple evolutions, I tend to not just use the evolved forms but the base forms as well. Some of these which I have used are Scyther (classic example, it seems), Eevee, Poliwhirl and Nincada.

Interesting example, because Pikachu @ Light Ball is actually usable and one of the unevolved pokemon that can be used.
On the other hand, most (though there are obviously exceptions) evolution forms seem to be created to make the pokemon better - and while some pokemon are better off unevolved, many others have better stats at their highest evolved form.

Er, no, Akart.
Slaking has one of the highest attack stats in the game (not to mention, all its other stats are great, even speed). Just because it has to miss a turn means nothing; it can be avoided by switching out, or just stand there taking the blows. His stats are almost on the level of uber; just because Truant might impede you is no excuse not to use it.
And with Shedinja, you're wrong too. Shedinja also has a high attack stat (though not up to par with Slaking), and because it only has 1 HP, it doesn't need any defenses. Its speed is pretty decent too, and has great sweeper potential. (I got absolutely Pwned by Arena Tycoon's Shedinja. I still can't get her Silver symbol.)
As for Weavile? 4x weakness to Fighting and horrible Def and HP stats. It's most likely to only survive one turn in competitive play...Especially with Brick Break and Focus Blast running around everywhere.

I just realised I've left out a category in my previous post, and that is, Pokemon species which can make use of certain items only if they are unevolved. Pikachu with Light Ball (thanks for the reminder Sion9), Chansey with Lucky Punch, and Clamperl with Deepseascale/Deepseatooth are those which I've used (actually, I don't think there are any more besides these three).
I think it would have been a good idea for Nintendo to introduce more of such items to make it more worthwhile to use unevolved Pokemon.
