Since I already started with a turtwig, i hacked to get a shiny chimchar. however finding good IV's, the right nature, EV training, etc. etc. was one manually. would it be wrong to use it in competitive play?

I'd say so since you could have traded for the Chimchar.

However, it's ike a completely normal shiny chimchar, with rather low IV's. I think people need to stop whining about "illegitamite" pokemon. the results the same, but it just took a shorter period of time. And no, I couldn't have traded for one, as I can't access the WFC.

Hi there, first post here.

Well, it's an interesting topic--many are like neo-nazis about "cheating." Others cheat to ludicrous extents. Me? I'm in-between.

Let me first point out, i have a Nintendo SP gameshark, and have borrowed my friend's Action Replay for Diamond. Yeah, I use it to an almost Ludicrous extent on my Fire Red and Emerald (I got them after I got my diamond's National Dex), but I have certain rules when I use them.

I don't use the cheats to boost stats, for one. Another is I don't like catching Pokemon not available in the game, at any level that they don't come at. If i use a pokemon modifier it's only to catch a shiny legendary (only in emerald) or the other starters (both) at the beginning of the game. However, I feel free to go crazy on the items--but no rare candies. I can level them up on my own. Also, I got 3 Deoxys and then caught a shiny one, so I could have all 4 forms, planning to keep the shiny one normal (in an ironic note, the shiny nature turned out to be bashful, and thus perfect for my plan).

When I borrowed my friend's AR, I admit, I did get a little greedy. First, I gave myself all of the berries available, in bulk. This is because I EV train like crazy, and I find repetition to up stats fun in any game, so I leave my EV training natural. However, he did not have a cheat for only the EV reducing berries, so I had to settle. Next, I obtained each of the Event Items. I wanted a Shiny Arceus, so I used the AR to get to it, Catch it shiny, and Mod it's nature to Modest so it's special attack is epic. Yeah, I did the same with a re-catch Dialga code. I feel a little iffy about that one, but when platinum comes out, I'll just rec-catch him legit and fix the feeling in my gut.

Darkrai-Only got the member card and got him modest because I already spent an hour catching him over and over with other natures.

Next I got a Manaphy egg (I lack the funds and interest for Pokemon Ranger), and the Oak's Letter. I am yet to catch Shaymin.

I also plan to use the AR to catch a shiny and adamant Regigigas, because he looks awesome, and I'd normally do it until I got an adamant one; when both instances have equal stats, why not go for the better looking one?

Then I legitimately EV train the heck out of the aforementioned pokemon so they're usable.

I don't use any cheats to boost stats beyond their natural capacities. I rely on EVs for that. So what if it's a Black Rayquaza, instead of a green one? It's still just as good as yours, his, or that guy in the corner's--it just looks cooler. Plus, if I limit the AR to what I use it for, is it really non-legit? I still Found him in the right place, fought him with my pokemon, caught him with my own pokeballs, and trained him like normal. So I saved myself the time of re-starting the game for the nature. I have a life (not really, but I have a pre-order of Too Human to play), so I can't waste an hour trying to get him the way I want him. And oh, he's Blue. Big deal.

Some people need to loosen the noose a little, and get over it.

I use A LOT of cheats. I admit that. But when you look at it, the results aren't that special. They're just time-saving and convenient.

Wow that was a lot for my first post. Ha ha. Fun.

[Edit:]

Oh, and I use the AR to get the items because I have this weird need to nickname every pokemon I obtain. Thus far, none of the events give the item, just the pokemon with pre-set natures and stats. It bothers me because of the following:

1. I can't nickname it.
2. There is little variation in the pokemon. Every trainer has the same pokemon with the same base stats, the same nature, the same ID, and the same IVs. If I catch them, then they're not a clone, they're unique and can be either weaker or stronger. I'd rather have a weak pokemon then have the same inbred pokemon as everyone else.
3. They don't promote the same amount of work. You get handed the pokemon, rather than have to put effort into catching it, or having to sacrifice that masterball you saved up. It teaches the player nothing about hard-work, which is the one of the lessons (if any) that pokemon teaches.
4. They put the item in the game code for a reason. It should be used, rather than bypassed.

Also, in Japan they gave Darkrai away like I mentioned above. This eliminates, as I consider it, one of the best in-game side-plots in Pokemon history. The kid having the nightmares. It may be part of Cresselia's story, but Darkrai's tied into it, and the hotel offers an awesome way of putting a stop to Darkrai's reign of terror. Or at least I think of it like that. It's a shame for people not to be able to play through it, and just get the pokemon instead.

I am personally against most of the hacking of the game.
I think about the game like I think about having a job.
You get paid because you did the work to get the money.
If you don't do the work you don't deserve getting the money.

The work in pokemon is engaging yourself for a large amount of time
to get exactly what you want (EV's, IV's, Natures, Baby Moves, XD moves, Etc...)

If it isn't worth the time then you've engaged yourself in the wrong game. The fact
that someone has to "rationalize" why it should be legit just proves that it shouldn't be.

But that's just my opinion.
I know I will be disagreed with.

Here's the thing: When people play video games, most of them don't want to work really, really hard for stuff. They want to have fun.

If fun comes to you in breeding, then cool. Knock yourself out.

Fun, for me, is in battling, either with other people in a competitive environment, or the Battle Tower.

Fortunately, most event moves and moves from XD are pretty useless. But those move tutors in Emerald? Those are awesome! I want Fire Punch on my Charizard, or Seismic Toss on my Blissey from Sinnoh. (hopefully, they'll all make an appearance in Platinum)

I have no problem with people who hack within the legal limits. I think they should disclose that before trading, because, as ignorant as I might think it is, anti-hackers have the right to their beliefs and a right to be informed.

And I fully support someone grabbing a Ninjask with Wonder Guard and all OHKO moves and destroying the Battle Tower.
