So, I'm sitting here watching an episode of Pokémon on Cartoon Network. It's an older one with Ash's original voice actor and all. It's the one where Tracy, Ash and Jessy all get Stun Spore'd by a Vilaplume and Misty and James use a Poliwag to fine an herb to cure it. Not until just now did I realized that, what I thought was the Poliwag's nose, was it's mouth! Wow...over 10 years of miss-interoperated anatomy.

It's actually funny. I thought the exact same thing for 8 years. I had no idea.

I remember that episode, vaguely. I saw it when it aired on kids wb, but I didn't remember where Misty caught Poliwag until sometime after it evolved.

I think I read from a pokedex articel that it was a mouth, but I still don't like thinking of it as such for some reason. It's not like poliwhirl or wrath's noses are actually mouths too, right? ...right?

I saw the episode very recently on cartoon network also, and I only saw that part, but I could tell it was a mouth.

i hate to say it, but its been a LONG time since i last saw any of the anime's, but what i do remember of it, i dont recall ever seeing any red thing. so i guess i'll just take your guys' words for it

actually whats sad for me is that i saw a card before i saw it in an anime, and i knew it was the mouth and everything, but when i finally saw it in the anime i had to do a double-take on it to recheck if it was a mouth and not a nose XD XD XD made me feel REAL stupid.

What Silver said, I mean I really did not know this & I even saw that episode of pokemon though to be fair, there were clues...just not good ones...

Well, I always thought it was Poliwag's mouth, so I can't really agree there. On a similar note though, when I first saw swinub on my silver, the colouring was a little bad, so I thought its nose was two eyes that were really close together, and that its eyes were eyebrows. Because of that, I had no idea what swinub was until I saw the sugimori art.

I always thought that was a mouth. From the first time I saw Poliwag's design, it looked like a mouth to me.

How else would it shoot its crappy bubble attack? Through it's nose?

Tadpoles don't even have noses in the first place.

You can tell it's a mouth on Pokemon Battle Revolution and other 3D Pokemon games. But even though I know it's a mouth I'm still fooled into thinking it's a nose...

I remember seeing when misty caught poliwag i did notice that its nose/mouth moved and i heard poli so i just figured it was a mouth never knew there was contriversy abouth the poliwags nose
